What can one say! So many people, like myself, become frozen by fear or feelings of inadequacy that they do not ACT. Others, like you, "act as if!" (as you mentioned in your journal.) I have been feeling very sorry for myself after suffering from depression for years; I've became angry at the years lost, especially as I was unable to work, had no income or health insurance and relied upon my best friend to support me in every way. Whenever there was any trajedy - like the tsunami or the gulf coast disaster, I sobbed for those whose lives were destroyed but thought, "I have so little myself and my future is so uncertain, how can I give any money?" I am relieved to have finally found a medication which is helping and I am seeing some blue skies. And then this morning I saw you on CNN - and recognized PURE JOY - I was reminded of my old self and how I once felt about life and how wonderful it can be and that we must create it ourselves! Even if we're not feeling quite up to it, we must "act as if" and even if we don't think we have much to give to others, we must have faith and let go. Living in fear is not living at all. Although I'm having a hard time getting a job, I will donate to your site today. Also, I have every Richard Bach book sitting in a box under the stairs waiting for me. I shall begin with my favorite, "Illusions." I will turn off the TV, which has been my hiding place for years, and begin to participate in my life again. Thank you - not only for what you have chosen to do in this project - but also for how you have helped me reconnect with my spirit today. I recently saw your interview on 106&Park and was truly moved by your enormous efforts to make a REAL difference. There has been so much controversy with where all the millions of dollars that were donated were actually going that I have only donated directly to victims rather than these organizations. However, I will not miss this opportunity to make a donation here because I feel confident enough that it will reach the BLACK people whose distraught faces we stared into on the television screens, while we cried at home from witnessing the blatant neglect and destruction of black people and black communities, and their heritage, culture, and legacy. Although the media will soon forget them now that the one year anniversary is over, I know that these people still exist and are STILL DISPLACED and STILL NEED OUR HELP. I have already promised myself to make a difference somehow, even if I have to do it alone, but I want you to know that I am even more inspired by the strength and selflessness that you have demonstrated. Our town of Ocean Springs was also ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. When I read things like this, I get completely overwhelmed. So many people helped my family and me, and someday I hope to be able to help others. Right now I have to focus on getting my family and my life back on track. With help from a Grant program set up here also, we should be able to do that shortly. I am fortunate that my husband took the initiative to start on our house when others had no choice but to wait. I did my very best and rocked the show, and they loved it! I did win a nice certificate and a beautiful Oklahoma Idol trophy, but I haven't heard anything from anyone else. My dad and I contacted our local television, newspaper, and radio stations, about my story and they weren't even interested. I guess our states too small or just don't care about a young person doing something positive.
